WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHAT IS HYPNOSIS? F.A.Q.S ?? F.A.Q.S
Understanding Hypnosis & Frequently Asked Questions
Hypnosis is a perfectly natural occurrence which humans snap in and out of several times a day. It has been used in therapy since 2000 B.C. and was approved by the American Medical Association in 1958. Hypnosis is best described as: an awake state, a state of relaxation, an exercise for the mind, rapport with your unconscious and the ultimate display of self control.
Here Are A Few Examples of Hypnosis:
Have you ever been driving home in your car, you pull into your driveway and suddenly you think, " I don't remember anything about the drive, how did I get home?"
You were in hypnosis!
Have you ever found yourself flipping through the TV channels repeatedly for several minutes, perhaps even hours, not really watching any program? Just flipping through the channels, 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 etc.
You were in hypnosis! (also known as TV trance).
Have you ever been having fun playing with your children or your friends, or reading a book and you lost track of time?
You were in hypnosis!
And nothing bad happened to you did it?
Of course not because you were in control at all times.
All hypnosis is self hypnosis. The hypnotist is a coach and a cheerleader. Not a wizard, sorcerer or a magician. The volunteers are mental athletes following fun suggestions that result in a fun and dazzling performance for all.
They are in complete control at all times.
Even though they do not appear to be.
What exactly is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is best described as: an awake "altered" state, a state
of relaxation, an exercise for the mind, rapport with your unconscious and the ultimate display of self control.
Will I know what's going on around me while I'm hypnotised?
Yes. You will hear every word that the hypnotist says? Your body will be very relaxed, but your mind will remain conscious and aware the entire time.
Can I be hypnotized against my will?
A person cannot be hypnotized against their will.
If you resist, it will not work.
A few minutes of hypnosis is equal to a few HOURS of sleep. It feels great!
Can the hypnotist make me do something I don't want to?
Will I reveal my innermost secrets or say something I don't want others to know?
Absolutely not. You will not lose control at anytime. In fact you'll be more in control.
What Does It Feel Like To Be Hypnotised?
It feels great! Hypnosis is a natural state that feels similar to that feeling you get when you take a nap on a warm sunny day. When you awaken, you feel refreshed and revitalized.
Can Everyone Be Hypnotised?
Yes. Anyone of at least average intelligence can be hypnotized. However, the subject must first be willing. Interestingly the more intelligent and creative you are the more easily it is to become hypnotized.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis? What if I don't wake up?
After hypnosis, a person awakens naturally, just as they do after sleep! It is impossible for
someone to be "left in hypnosis."
If the hypnotist were to leave before counting them awake, the subject would eventually realize that the session had ended and would awaken on their own. During a hypnotherapy session, if there were an emergency, they could easily awaken themselves at any time and simply walk off the stage.
Are there any "spirits" involved or does this involve the occult?
Hypnosis has absolutely NOTHING to do with religion, spirituality, or the occult. The only reason some people think that there is some relation is because of the old Vincent Price movies. That's just Hollywood having fun!
Can hypnosis be used for...?
"Improving my golf game?" "Helping me relax during exams?" "Curing my insomnia?" "Helping me get past my fear of public speaking?" Etc. Let's put it this way: think for a moment about any issue in your life that you'd like to improve and ask yourself, "Does my mind interact with this issue/activity in any way? Do my thoughts/beliefs affect my performance? Do my feelings contribute to my experiences in this area? Have I had past experiences that are reinforcing my beliefs/thoughts/emotions in a negative way? Is it my expectation that I will NOT get the results I desire?" Are you getting the picture? The mind, body and emotions are all connected. Therefore, every issue can be significantly improved/relieved through the regular use of hypnosis.
